New MiiSleep Insight

The recommended amount of sleep for adults, including older adults, is around 8 hours and should be as continuous as possible. Even though we will spend one-third of our life asleep, getting enough good quality sleep is rarely a priority for people. Around 40% of adults suffer from insomnia or sleep apnoea, of which 75% also suffer from depression. Surprisingly, almost 50% of adults report some level of sleep deprivation, which can lead to increased risk of cognitive decline and mood disorders. Poor sleep in older adults is of particular worry and can lead to a 40% increase in fall risk. Many determinants of ageing can be outside our control. However, sleep hygiene is not one of them.

Our new AI-driven sleep hygiene insight, MiiSleep, is currently being validated in a clinical trial and will help our users optimise their sleep and improve their quality of life and longevity. Over the past 6 months, MiiCare's data science team has been busy developing a way of tracking the quality and consistency of our users’ sleep, including disturbances, wake-ups, consistency in bedtime routines and environmental factors such as temperature and light levels, all using the existing motion sensor in each room. Through MiiSleep, we are able to analyse sleep quality and make recommendations through our digital health coach Monica. Monica can also notify the family members or their care provider if the user needs help making adaptations to their sleeping pattern and/or environment. These recommendations were developed in close collaboration with leading experts in the field and made use of evidence-based digital therapeutics solutions (CBT for sleep), and we continue to improve our solution through research and clinical trials.

Sleep is a common denominator in diabetes, dementia, immunity, and many other long-term conditions. With MiiSleep, we believe we will be able to address numerous health conditions and empower Monica to drastically improve quality of life and decrease the risk of falls and cognitive decline across our user base. Please get in touch if you would like to participate in our clinical trials.
